This is my very first idea on the topic “water”. I think of the opposite side of water which is the fire. I started to think how I could make it harmonious in its own way. So I come up with the idea ICE CANDLE, a candle made from ice and you can actually light up! Unfortunately, I couldn’t go on with this idea, I tried and failed many times.

First attempt - FAILED

I tried to make a homemade candlewick. A thread that can be used as a candlewick must be 100% cotton. Then I soak the thread in a hot candle puddle (while it is still flaming), lifted it and curled it in a little container. Then let it dried. After a while I added water and leave it frozen in the fridge. I became an ice candle like what you see in the photos. However I couldn’t light the fire up. It was obviously too damp.

Second attempt - FAILED.

While spending some time in the class. I tried another way of lighting up an ice candle. This time I used the ice cube, crash it into 2 sides and put candlewick in the middle. Then light the fire up. At first the fire lit but it was gone after the flame met the ice cube. In the photo I experimented what’s like if I drop the candle tears on the water. I found out it became a plate of paraffin sticking together on a surface of water.

The third attempt was inspired from the oil lamp.

Third attempt - FAILED.

Third time I thought of the kerosene. It would separate the layers with the water. The orange water in the photo was from the food coloring. This way I can see it clearer. Then I dropped in the candlewick, in the end it was not working again because the same reason that it was too damp!
